The Decrease that brings Increase

John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.

John 12:24 Verily, verily , I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth froth much fruit.

Luke 14:11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

“3 Things that must decrease in order for God to increase”

  1. Your will

Luke 11: 2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

Matt. 16: 24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

  2. The Flesh

Rom. 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Rom. 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

“2 aspects of the flesh that must decrease”

  1. The sinful nature

  2. The emotional responses

Prov. 25:28 He that has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

  3. Your past

Phil. 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
